the CoinDesk portraits on the OpenSea market
My 12 portrait paintings for the CoinDesk Most Influential 2019 project are now available to purchase with 20% of the sales donated to charity. To add more value to these artworks I've created a non-fungible token (NFT) for each painting, which will be listed to buy on the OpenSea marketplace.
Very simply, the NFT is a tokenized digital image of the painting that is a unique 1 of 1 and can be bought and sold as a work of digital art and is entirely separate from the physical painting.
The highest bidder will receive BOTH the physical painting and the NFT.

Why an NFT?
The digital collectibles market has been booming and the interest in cryptoart being listed on marketplaces such as OpenSea, SuperRare and KnownOrigin continues to grow. I’ve only just entered this exciting digital art world but I’m happy to say my inauguration into the space couldn't have gone any better. My very first NFT 'EthGirl', a collaboration work with talented digital artist @money_alotta, smashed the all-time high sales record by 7X on SuperRare in less than 24 hours selling for $10,027.50 USD. The following week the buyer of the EthGirl NFT purchased the physical painting for £12,000 ($15,750).
The reserve price set for each OpenSea 'Most Influential' NFT is just 20 ETH and as mentioned above, the highest bidder will receive both the digital 1 of 1 and the physical painting.

With the emergence of CryptoVoxels, a virtual world powered by the Ethereum blockchain where players can buy land and build stores and art galleries etc the NFT artworks are being displayed in a truly exciting space with entire communities popping up, working and building together.
I see how cryptoart collectibles are the future with huge potential for financial investment. It makes sense to offer an NFT, which the owner has the option to HODL or sell at any time while still keeping hold of the physical painting if they so choose.

As these physical portraits are being sold individually my vision is to build a CoinDesk art museum in the CryptoVoxels virtual world, which could house the Most Influential 2019 NFTs as a complete collection (with the permission of the NFT owners of course) for anyone to visit and enjoy. These will be the galleries of the future!
I also believe that as the digital collectibles market matures, important art pieces will increase in value, mirroring the traditional art market. By owning the NFT the new buyer could potentially offset the initial artwork investment or even make a profit by selling the digital work at some point in the future. I see this as a win/win. |

Watch a short clip demonstrating some of the tech I used to digitally enhance each of these physical portrait paintings: NFC tags, augmented reality, morphing, social media buttons + access to creative process videos.

BIDDING ON THE ARTWORK IN OPENSEA
The reserve price for each NFT and physical artwork combination is 20 Eth, which includes delivery of the painting and courier insurance.
Auction End Time:
The OpenSea auction will end next week, Friday 17 January 2020. Any paintings that haven't sold I will keep in my collection with the option to sell privately or in another auction. After the auction ends on the 17th the winning bidder of each artwork will need to contact me to discuss delivery of their painting.
Each painting is 76 x 63 cm (30 x 25 inches) including the white box frame. If the buyer of a painting would like to have it re-framed once they've received it that is absolutely fine with me and I'd be happy to offer advice.
What will you need to use OpenSea?
On a desktop computer, you'll need to install a wallet extension for your browser, such as MetaMask or Dapper. You'll also need to fund your account with a small amount of Ether (20 cents is more than enough) in order to purchase an item.
On your mobile device, you'll need to use an Ethereum-compatible mobile browser like Trust, Coinbase Wallet, or Opera.
